Pharmaceutical Quality System

Pharmaceutical Quality System

After reading this information, it can be understood that a Pharmaceutical Quality System (PQS) is basically a system comprising various processes and procedures that aim for the quality of pharmaceutical products.PQS encompasses simple concepts like good manufacturing practices, quality control systems, and assurance programs. PQS’s principal function is to ascertain the quality status of pharma products.

In addition, it is believed that PQS is one of the key elements of the pharmaceutical industry as it ensures that our patients receive only safe and properly efficient drugs. Compliance with all PQS regulations is crucial for maintaining the safety of patients and quality of products and thus protecting the company’s good name.

The pharmaceutical industry is regulated heavily and utilizes an efficient Quality System for ensuring that its products have quality, safety, and effectiveness. It is made up of a number of elements that help make it possible for it to be compliant and of quality.

  • Quality Assurance (QA): This ensures that there are policies and procedures that are put in place to make the manufacture and quality control of pharmaceuticals easier. It also includes conducting internal and external audits to verify compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and to support continuous improvement.
  • Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP): GMP sets forth specific regulations that determine the minimum requirements for pharmaceutical products with regard to hygiene practices of the crew, product design, processing methods, testing instruments, record-keeping systems, and recall methods.
  • Validation: Validation determines whether a certain process or system in the pharmaceutical industry works as expected and complies with certain quality standards needed to ensure patient safety and effectiveness of a drug.
  • Quality Control (QC): QC is part of the Quality System, which consists of observing pharmaceutical products to verify their compliance with quality standards. Quality control entails developing specifications, using sampling methods, and performing tests for pharmaceutical inputs, packaging materials, finished products, etc.

By implementing a well-organized Pharmaceutical Quality System, pharmaceutical companies can make sure that their medicinal products comply with required regulations and provide effective treatment for patients worldwide.
